Selfridges Film Project

To celebrate the launch of its new Women's Designer Galleries, Selfridges has commissioned a collection of short films (FILM PROJECT), which were being shown at an exhibition in The Old Selfridges Hotel at London from 15th until 25th of March.

We were of the unfortunates who could not make it to London, even if we love it, but instead we saw the films from the imac in our small office since they are available online.

Selfridges has appointed curator Emma Reeves to collaborate with A.F. Vandevorst, Alexander McQueen, Ann Demeulemeester, Comme des Garçons, Dries Van Noten, Gareth Pugh and Rick Owens who have been invited to take part in the project. The aim was that each designer had to choose a director to work with for the production of a short film that should feature today’s modern female character.

Alexander McQueen film "Obscure Desires" was directed by the acclaimed cinematographer and art director Dustin Lynn.

A.F. Vandevorst film is a performance by model and actress Delfine Bafort and is titled with her name and directed by Stef Viaene.

"In the Desert Sun" is the 4.03 minute film by Ann Demeulemeester who worked with the actor Michael Pitt. The film is about a woman's (model Jamie Borchert) roaming in a desert landscape.

The brand Comme des Garçons created "Madeleine Malraux - Silence Genius at Work", an hommage to the pianist Madeleine Malraux, directed by Katerina Jebb.

Dries Van Noten's "Mornlight" was actually created in 2005 to illuminate the Dries Van Noten fashion show in Paris. Due to technical difficulties on the day of the show it remained unused until now. The short film features model Sylvia Mann and was directed by Christopher Doyle.

Club Nouveau is the proposal by designer Gareth Pugh and director Ruth Hogben.

Rick Owens created "D’Amore Sill’Ali Rosee" features Michelle Lamy and again directed by Ruth Hogben.
